Charles Bao is a biotech business executive whose work is centered around human DNA. Born in Suzhou—a historic Chinese city known for its classical gardens, silk heritage and artistic legacy—he left hometown at a young age and has since built a life in the suburbs of New York City. Having spent nearly half his life between East and West, Charles uses photography to explore the contrasts and connections across cultures, environments, and moments in time.
Photography has been his lifelong passion. For Charles, photography is more than an art form—it’s a way to interpret life across contrasts: urban and suburban, East and West, tradition and modernity. Through the lens, he seeks to connect with people and places, to find meaning in transitions, and to capture the quiet moments that reveal the beauty and complexity of the world around us.
